Signs of synergy in the social networking world…

Date August 18, 2008

Just a personal observation, but if any of you have paid attention lately, the “pieces of the puzzle” that have existed in the emerging services available for social networking purposes are starting to fit together.  I’m on Facebook, Linked In, and Plaxo, for example, and these three separate sites have attracted users based upon very different, very unique features.  Lately, upgrades to their services are showing some similarities:

  • A feature on Plaxo is reflecting Linked In’s ability to create pages for users to share information with those in their network;
  • Facebook constantly is introducing integration capability with more and more social networking tools, including Flickr (photo sharing), Twitter, and others; and,
  • Plaxo is encouraging users to “invite” linking relationships based on address books, a la Linked In.

Best of all, these enterprises truly reflect the future of technology and business.  Rather than building walls, they’re tightly intertwining their offerings to take advantage of the increasingly sophisticated interweaving of virtual relationships online.

What a truly wonderful and exciting time to witness the emergence of Web 2.0, and its effects on the personal brand.
